Special Interest Clubs
Active Minds - The purpose of Active Minds is to increase awareness of mental health issues and to promote an environment without stigma on campus. Additionally, Active Minds seeks to foster a culture where all members of the community feel comfortable and listened to on topics of mental health.
Archery Club - UPAC will promote, teach, and practice the sport of archery and its requisite values of safety, responsibility, focus, and persistence. Additionally, the club will educate its members about the vast and varied history of archery from many cultures throughout the world.
Art Club - The purpose for Art club is to provide a means for students to create, share, discuss, and appreciate art. Art Club is dedicated to the promotion of art at University of Portland and the surrounding area. The intent is for the club members to work together, to support fellow art students, to facilitate student/faculty relationships, to promote a strong art community in the greater Portland area, and to bring visiting artists to University of Portland.
Basic Stitches - In this knitting club we hope to teach our members some of the basic stitches that come with knitting and how to knit simple projects while developing more intermediate skills as members reach this stage. We provide a place and time that participants can all come together and share projects.
Bluffoons - creates humor and entertainment as a means of strengthening the University community in camaraderie through regular performances that showcase their improvisational acting skills.
Board Game Club (Spielfriek Society)- Connects people with an interest in board games (broadly defined as those games played face to face) and provide an environment in which they can be enjoyed.
Campus Lion's Club - This club is chartered by and under the jurisdiction of the International Association of Lions Clubs and the total emphasis is on service to the community. The Campus Lions Club strives to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world, to promote the principles of good government and good citizenship, to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community. To unite the members in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding. To provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members. To encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors.
Circle K International Club - Circle K International at the University of Portland strives to foster student leadership, while providing ample volunteer opportunities. Circle K International helps connect student leaders from all over the world, and serve to make our communities better and gives students an opportunity to make a purposeful impact on other countries.
College Ecology Club - builds awareness on the environmental issues of our campus; works with the UP community by planning activities that benefit the environment; and promotes individual responsibility with recycling, reducing and reusing.
College Republicans - supports the philosophy and candidates of the Republican Party; seeks to promote voter and current-event awareness.
Colleges Against Cancer -
American Cancer Society Colleges Against Cancer is a nationwide collaboration of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer by initiating and supporting programs of the American Cancer Society in College Communities.
Disney Club- The UP Disney Club’s purpose is to bring the magic of Disney to our campus. Our goal is to provide a fun and welcoming environment for students who have an interest in all things Disney. We hope to achieve this by holding activities such as parties, movie nights, service activities, Disney trivia nights, Disney inspired programs and more.
Encores Away A Capella -Is a co-ed a cappella group consisting of students from the University of Portland. We are a group that strives to create a loving community through our shared interest of music – committed to forming a whole, beautiful sound with only our voices. Singing is supposed to be fun, and we’ll always be working on better ways to make it as fun for you as it is for us.
Engineers Without Borders - cross disciplinary club that promotes socially aware engineering through regional and international service projects.
Fashion Club - The purpose of Fashion Club is to showcase the possibilities a career with an emphasis on fashion could present. The Fashion Club offers an environment in which all students are invited to come together and discuss current fashion trends and events.
Feminist Discussion Group - Strives to create a space for women and men to discuss and to educate one another on feminism and related issues in an open, respectful, and supportive atmosphere, and extends that discussion and education to the greater University community through speakers, activities, and other events.
Her Campus Portland -
Her Campus Portland is a publication that strives to provide the women of University of Portland with interesting articles that are both personal and relevant to their lives. It is also a publication through which aspiring journalists (both male and female) can get their start, grow as writers, and gain great journalistic experience as a staff member of a national online magazine. Additionally, students interested in business, marketing and public relations can, through their involvement with Her Campus Portland, gain experience with advertising, publicity, and brand promotion.
Investment Association -
UPIA assists in the professional, educational and social development of students interested in the fields of finance, banking and investments.
Lyric Theater -
exists to instill an appreciation, development, and education of musical theater and opera in the campus community and the surrounding neighborhood through performances, community outreach and movie events.
League of Inventors -“The purpose of this club shall be to provide members the opportunity to propose, vote on, and physically engage in projects considered to be of scientific or engineering interest.”
Mobile App Development Club -
The purpose of the Mobile App Development Club is to provide an arena for students to learn how to create, develop, and maintain mobile applications. To cultivate creativity and collaboration between students in regards to mobile applications, and to educate students on how to bring their applications to the marketplace.
Portland Film Club -The purpose of the club is to enhance, develop, and promote the process of creating and analyzing film. Members of The Portland Film Production will create and distribute films of their own making that are varied in duration, provided that the films created by the members are not inappropriate for the University of Portland. Members will additionally learn new skills in the creative process of making films and have an understanding of the distribution methods of the works created within the club.
Society for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) - The purposes of SEDS UP is to educate students and the general public about the benefits of space exploration and development to provide a forum for the discussion and exchange of ideas in space related areas of interest, and to organize students in hands on technical projects related to space exploration.
Treasure Hunting Club -
Roosevelt Institution Undergraduate Student Think Tank - a national network of student think-tanks that provides a stage for political discourse at the University of Portland. An organization of students, for students, and by students, working to develop the means to define and implement the policies they believe in. Dedicated to working hard to deliver sound policy research to policymakers at all levels of government, and work to organize, train, and empower the next generation of progressive leaders.
Student Alumni Association -
fosters tradition and school spirit, builds pride and loyalty, creates future alumni leaders, and encourages interaction between current students and alumni.
Student Led Unity Garden (SLUG) -
maintains the growth and continual development of the University of Portland community garden. The garden serves to unite the local North Portland community with the University of Portland for a common purpose: to learn about and practice sustainable organic gardening.
Swing Dance Club - The purpose of SDC is to be a fun and social experience that fuses a bit of the 1930s into today’s culture at the University of Portland (UP) through East Coast and West Coast Swing Dancing, costumes, and music such as Big Band Swing. SDC will also act as a stress relieving homework break through weekly dance lessons, trips to nearby Swing dances, and performances at UP where students will feel included and respected.
Tengoku no Anime Club - aims to broaden an understanding of cultures through the experience of animation.
