The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) program at the University of Portland is an educational program designed to give men and women the opportunity to become Air Force officers while completing a bachelor's or master's degree. The Air Force ROTC program is designed to prepare students to assume positions of increasing responsibility and importance in the modern Air Force. Air Force ROTC offers numerous programs and scholarship opportunities for students, which lead to an academic degree and a commission in the Air Force as a second lieutenant.
The Air Force ROTC program at the University of Portland is one of the oldest programs on campus, celebrating its 65th anniversary in the 2016-2017 academic year. Despite being hosted at a relatively small private school, Detachment 695 is one of the largest detachments for officer production in the country and comprises nearly 10 percent of the campus student population at University of Portland.
