Lent 2017 Mini-Retreat Series:
Service, Prayer, Pilgrimage
No time for a full weekend retreat?
Throughout Lent, Campus Ministry will offer three half-day opportunities for students who wish to enter more deeply into this important season and their own faith lives but face the constraints of busy college schedules. Through service, prayer, and pilgrimage, these opportunities will encourage students to seek God in their daily lives and interactions with others. Please see below for details.
You are welcome to sign up for just one event or all three! Please note, however, that some days have limited spaces; we ask that you only sign up for these if you firmly plan to attend.
1. March 25th: Day of Service
Time: 8:00 am – 2:00 pm (departure at 7:30 am and return at 2:30 pm)
Location: St. Andre Bessette Downtown Chapel
Share a morning and afternoon at St. Andre Bessette, a ministry of the Congregation of Holy Cross, which serves those experiencing homelessness in Portland. Volunteers will help with morning hospitality, share time and conversation with St. Andre guests, learn about issues such as poverty, mental illness, and addiction, and reflect & pray with Catholic Social Teaching.
Lunch and city bus tickets for transportation will be provided.
2. April 1st: Day of Quiet Prayer — sign up here
Time: 9:30 am – 1:00 pm (departure at 9:00 am and return at 1:30 pm)
Location: Loyola Jesuit Center, SE Portland
Take a break from the rush of campus to enter more deeply into prayer. This mini-retreat will include guided prayer, some small group reflection, and time for quiet, personal prayer, as well as reflection on finding God in everyday college life.
A light lunch will be provided.
3. April 14th (Good Friday): Day Pilgrimage to St. Andre Bessette in Downtown Portland - sign up here
Time: 9:30 am – 1:00 pm
Location: Meet at the Chapel of Christ the Teacher
Spaces: No limit
All are welcome to join us, although it is helpful for us to know how many to expect. Please let us know if you are coming through the survey above.
People enter into pilgrimage for many different reasons and to many different places. Yet, all share the experience of engaging an inner journey through the outward act of walking. On Good Friday, we invite students to walk together from our Chapel of Christ the Teacher to St. Andre Bessette, the site of our day of service (see #1). Throughout this ~6 mile walk, we will stop to reflect on the Stations of the Cross, and we will conclude with a short time of prayer before returning to campus by bus.
Bus tickets for the return trip home will be provided.
