Handshake Help

I’m having issues uploading a document. What’s going on?

This will generally happen when using a browser such as Safari or Explorer. Use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, as well as making sure that there is no lock or protection on the document. This happens more commonly with a transcript but in some cases may be relevant.

What does it mean if I make my Handshake profile public?

My GPA is incorrect. How do I change my profile information that is not editable?

You will need to contact the registrar to make the needed changes. Handshake syncs with Banner (the system that tracks your GPA and other related account information) and once the registrar makes the changes on their end, your Handshake account should be updated shortly thereafter. Contact the registrar at registrar@up.edu or call 503.943.7321. 

If I edit or delete my document/s, will that affect my applications already submitted?

  • If you edit an existing document associated with an application:
    • The edit will be reflected in the application
      • This includes changing the file uploaded for that document, changes to the name, etc
    • Note that if the employer has already downloaded applications and documents, that they will not see the updated version
  • If you delete a document associated with an application:
    • You will not be able to view or recover this through your list of documents
    • The document will still be associated with its applications
    • A deleted document cannot be retrieved if you must resubmit your application

How do I find a remote position?

In your student view, click on “Jobs & Internships” on the left-hand navigation. On the left side of the screen at the bottom of all of the job preferences, click “Show advanced options.” Select “Remote Workers Allowed.”

How do I post a job or internship?

Where can I find internships and job postings?

If you are a student or alumnus looking for a job or internship off-campus, visit UP's new job and internship board, Handshake.

If you are a student looking for a job on-campus, visit the Student Job Board. The Office of Financial Aid office maintains a student employment page, which contains a lot of helpful resources. Additionally, the Finding Part-Time and Work Study Jobs handout may be helpful in your search. 

If you are looking for a full-time position at the University of Portland, please visit the job board maintained by human resources.


Appointments

How do I schedule an appointment?

Individual appointments can be scheduled by calling 503.943.7201 or stopping by the Career Center, Orrico Hall, Lower Level.

If you are a current student and you have an immediate need, stop by during Express Advising which are held during the spring and fall semesters, excluding fall and spring breaks.

What are the Career Center hours?

The Career Center is located in Orrico Hall, Lower Level, below the Health Center.

Our office hours are Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

We are open throughout the year, including during summer.
