Master of Biomedical Engineering (M-BME)

Graduate School Application

Admission Requirements (including UP Senior Applicants): 

  • Biomedical Engineering Statement of Goals
  • Current Resume
  • Two Letters of Recommendation 
    • All completed recommendation forms and letters should either be emailed as a signed attachment to gradschl@up.edu or sent via mail to ATTN: Graduate School, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd.,Portland, Oregon 97203, directly by the reference
  • Official Transcripts (from all previously attended academic institutions)
    • Must be submitted directly from the institution or in a sealed envelope given to the applicant directly from the academic institution
    • A bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university recognized by the University of Portland is required 
      • International Applicants: All foreign degrees will be evaluated by International Student Services prior to an admissions decision  
    • International Applicants: Transcripts from foreign universities must follow the above guideline as well as be in English or be accompanied by an English translation certified as authentic 
  • Official Test Scores
    • GRE test score
    • International Applicants: an official score from either the TOEFL (minimum score of 80) or IELTS (minimum score of 7.0) exam is required
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, life science or a physical science 
  • Prerequisites (See Below)
  • International Applicants: Proof of financial support will be required to attend the University of Portland, but is not required for application review 

*The Biomedical Engineering program does not have specific minimum acceptance standards for GPA and GRE. All application materials are viewed in aggregate. The GPA for previously accepted students range from 2.9-3.9, and the average GPA is 3.42.

Prerequisites: 

To complete the M-BME program in 12 months, the prerequisites listed below (or their equivalents) are required. Students who do not have all the prerequisites may apply to be conditionally accepted to the program, however, they can not start with the graduate cohort until the necessary courses are completed. With approval of the Graduate Program Director, students with only one outstanding prerequisite may start the program. These prerequisites must be completed within one year of acceptance or a new application will need to be submitted for review.
