The Wellness Education and Prevention Programs are dedicated to forming the whole person. We empower healthy decision making through education and prevention while fostering a culture that supports overall well-being. We think about wellness holistically, including the physical, emotional, spiritual, mental, and social components. Our violence prevention, mental health, and substance abuse programs equip students with information and skills to prevent harm to themselves and others.
Our hope is to support students in becoming actively involved in their own wellness; in recognizing the impact health has on personal and academic success, as well as on the community; and to co-create a safe, inclusive campus for everyone. When we work together, everyone in the community is safer, healthier, and happier.
Physical wellness encourages regular physical activities, proper nutrition, and health care. It also includes sexual health, maintaining a proper sleep schedule, and understanding the negative effects of substances.
Emotional wellness is having the ability to acknowledge, accept, and cope with a wide range of feelings in oneself and others. It is being able to express and manage one's own feelings to develop positive self-esteem while cultivating healthy attitudes and behaviors.
Mental wellness is a desire to learn from challenges and experiences. It engages ongoing intellectual growth, creativity, and critical thought. It also involves treating our minds as part of our bodies and taking the proper steps to practice self-care. We aim to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and promote positive, open conversations.
