General International Admissions Questions

What application materials can I send via email or fax?

Letter of recommendation, personal statement, and notification that you are applying for a home government scholarship can be emailed or faxed.

Application documents not acceptable by email or fax:

  • Undergraduate Application (submit as online University of Portland application or as a completed paper application).
  • $50 application fee (can be paid by check, money order, wire transfer, or via the online application; make checks payable to the University of Portland).
  • Official secondary school transcripts or school leaving exam reports translated into English by a certified translator. (English translations need to be accompanied by the original language transcript. Transcripts need to have the original stamp and signature from the ministry or the school.)
  • Official transcripts from any post-secondary institutions (if applicable).

Where are other places I can look for scholarships?

The International Student Scholarship is the only scholarship available to international students through the University. However, it is possible to find other scholarships outside the University. Have you received my application documents?

Due to the volume of inquiries we receive each day, we cannot provide conditional admission application updates over the phone. Inquiries by email will be answered within two (2) business days.

  • Your full name as submitted on the application (First Name and Last Name)
  • Your date of birth (Month-Day-Year)
  • What documents did you send, from where, and how did you send them

What is the status of my application?

  • Your full name as submitted on the application (Given Name and Family Name)
  • Your date of birth (Month-Day-Year)
  • Country of Citizenship(US citizens, please contact admissions@up.edu)

How can I request expedited or tracked shipping of my admission documents?

Conditional admission notification will be sent via United States Postal Service first-class mail to applicant's mailing address.

Applicant's wishing to receive their notification with a tracking number or by express mail will be responsible for the cost of express postage via United Parcel Service (UPS) express shipping. To arrange payment for UPS express shipping, you will be required to provide the International Admissions office with a UPS account number for billing. To request UPS shipping, please send us an email with the applicant's full name, date of birth, and UPS account number to be charged.

For shipping UPS requires a mailing address with contact name, PO Box or Street Number AND Postal Code, receiver's contact phone number for the mailing address and an email where the tracking information should be sent. This information should be sent by email to intl-adm@up.edu

To open a UPS account you will need to contact the UPS Customer Service Department in your current country of residence.

Do you have an English language program at the University of Portland?

Currently the University does not offer an ESL program on our campus, although we do recommend a few local programs.
