Congratulations to Monica Enand ’05, MBA in finance, on receiving the Entrepreneurial Achievement Award during the Oregon Entrepreneurial Network's 2016 Tom Holce Entrepreneurship Awards on October 26. Enand was one of 20 finalists chosen from 141 nominees. Each year more than 600 local business leaders converge at the awards dinner, considered to be Oregon’s largest and most prestigious business networking event. The ceremony honors the skill and courage required for an entrepreneur to create a business out of an idea, as well as their importance to the region’s economy.

"Winning the OEN Tom Holce Entrepreneurial Achievement Award is quite an honor," said Enand. "To be included on the same list as the prior winners is humbling and drives us to continue to strive to reach greater heights."

Enand founded Hillsboro software company Zapproved in 2008. She now serves as chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president. Before that she had a 16-year career in the software development field, managing business development and marketing at Avnera; overseeing global software development teams for IBM in the U.S., Canada, and India; and managing the compiler team for Intel from 1992 to 2000.

Zapproved has evolved into a leading cloud-based software provider for corporate legal needs—the company’s main product, Legal Hold Pro, tracks and retains documents that are crucial to pending legal actions, helping corporate legal departments respond to litigation in a controlled, efficient, low-risk manner.

"UP gave me the tools to look at technology through a business lens," Enand said.

Enand is a frequent speaker and active member in the entrepreneurial community in Portland. She was appointed by Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber to the Oregon Growth Board, a panel created by the Legislature to help Oregon businesses find funding and technical assistance, in 2014. She was recognized by the Portland Business Journal as the 2016 Entrepreneur of the Year and was a winner of the PBJ’s 2010 Orchid Award; Monica was also one of PBJ’s 2015 Executives of the Year, and Zapproved was named as Small Business Company of the Year in the PBJ’s 2015 Small Business Innovation Awards. In 2014, Zapproved was recognized in the 2014 Inc. 500 as one of the fastest growing private companies in the nation.
