The University believes that a solid health plan is vital to the well being of our students. As such, all full-time undergraduate students are required to carry medical insurance and are automatically enrolled in a PacificSource Health Plan. Students with comparable existing health insurance coverage may complete an on-line Health Insurance Waiver. The waiver form for 2017-2018 will be available in mid-July. Please have your health insurance ID card available. If you are an incoming student for spring 2018 semester, the form will be available online in mid-December.
The deadline to complete the waiver for fall 2017 is September 1, 2017, at noon (PDT).
The deadline to complete the waiver for spring 2017 is January 19, 2018 (PST).*
*Only applicable to new and returning students who were not enrolled on campus fall semester
Unless you complete the online waiver before the deadline, you will be required to pay the $1,093.00 premium fall and spring semester. The full year $2,186.00 premium will not be pro-rated even if you obtain other comparable insurance during the year; no exceptions will be granted.
Once your online waiver application has been submitted it will be audited. You will receive and email notifying you that your waiver has been declined within 5-7 business days if your coverage does not meet the requirements set by the University of Portland and the premium charge will remain on your student account.
If your waiver is approved, please allow 5-7 business days for the waiver credit to be posted to your student account.
The waiver must be completed every fall, and applies to both fall and spring semesters. Students new to the University and students who were not enrolled on campus for the fall semester (i.e. studies abroad, IES, students on a leave of absence, etc.) must go online and follow the instructions above to waive the spring insurance.
Part-time undergraduate and all graduate students are not required to participate in the University group insurance plan and are not automatically enrolled. Part-time undergraduate students and graduate students who would like to participate in the University group insurance plan should contact student accounts for more information.
